history • character's history; where they grew up, how they came to be who they are today...
Mary Ann was born and raised in Underland by her parents Rebecca and Frederick, two humble tea house owners. In her youth, she was a troublesome girl with a snobbish attitude and an obsession with knives. Her parents attempted to teach her how to behave like a proper lady, only to have some form of blade tossed at them by the tantrum throwing blonde. Her younger brother, Matthew, was born when Mary Ann was eight, and forced the otherwise self absorbed, somewhat spoilt little girl to open up and learn how to take care, as well as love, another person. While her parents worked, Mary Ann took it upon herself to take care of her brother and make sure he grew up with a strong connection to her, which gave her the marvellous bedside manner she displays.
Mary Ann was eleven when the war broke out and her usually quiet, calm town on the outskirts of the White section of Underland was burnt to the ground, taking her family's sole source of income. Her parents, too afraid of what would happen to Mary Ann and Matthew, sent the two away to separate homes os that if something happened to one of the children, they could still cling to the other for emotional support. Since Matthew was only three and therefore still 'cute', his adoption was quick and painless, while Mary Ann, having a reputation for being a troublesome girl in her younger years, was refused from almost all perspective homes. She was eventually sent off to work for the only person who would take her in: the White Rabbit.
Desperate to find her brother, Mary Ann worked herself near to death in order to please her new boss in the hopes he would allow her enough time off to search Underland. Although, after years of serving him as his maid, she grew attached to the rabbit and found herself unable to even think of abandoning him, despite her annoyance at occasionally being mistaken for Alice.
