"Ow, ow and bloody ow!"
Bare feet, unfamiliar with themselves, tip-toed clumsily through the thick underbrush of the forest. She'd tried walking on all fours before, but somehow it didn't feel right, so she'd simply stood up. A stream of muttered curses and growls trailed behind the young woman who wasn't, as she swung her new-found arms in an attempt to clear the path of whip-like branches that simply snapped back and smacked her in the face. As if in retaliation of her rough handling.
"This is absolutely ridiculous, I'm too old for this nonsense!" she whined out loud, flopping down in a heavy slump against the stem of a giant mushroom in a sulk.
Dinah was not a happy feline.
Ever since she tumbled down the rabbit hole she'd been running into nothing but trouble; first the strange doors, then the strange drink and now this strange body in a strange land. All this bad luck and she wasn't even a black cat.
The shimmering light of a small pond at her feet caught her attention and she leaned forward to see her reflection, only to see the face of a complete stranger. Ginger brows knitted in a mixture of anger and disbelief. Sure she knew the contents of the bottle had changed her, but she never expected this. A trembling hand lifted to brush alien finger-tips down the side of a human's face, before it fell in a frustrated swipe across the water's surface, breaking the image in a splash of violent ripples.
The golden bell around her neck tinkled in protest as Dinah wrapped linen-clad arms tightly around herself. Curling her legs up while she squeezed her eyes shut. Cold, weary and half-starved. She should never have come here, never have let curiosity get the better of her and drink from the bottle and venture out into the wilds by herself in a body that was not hers... All Dinah wanted to do was to go home.
But she couldn't. She had to find Alice, she had to get her home before they both lost their minds. The mental bond was nothing but a faint throb now, difficult to concentrate on with all the thoughts of ScaredHungryLost whirling through Dinah's skull. A billion new scents and sights threw her senses into a mass of confusion, it was hard to get her bearings.
If only Alice were here...
A faint rustling from behind shocked Dinah up from her huddle into a half-somersault, landing on her knees, eyes wide and nostrils flaring. Something was approaching and approaching fast. The tabby-woman felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise and prickle, her heart thumping painfully in her chest as she eyed the shuddering fauna before her.
Baring her tiny fangs, Dinah arched her back and released a sing-song warning growl, digging her fingers into the earth as she readied herself for fight-or-flight. And considering how well her day had been so far, the tabby queen was itching for something to sink her claws into.
"Come on out of there!" she hissed, "Show yourself!"

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL WAS asleep underneath a tree, sheltered by a mass amount of roots. She never really got how trees could stand a meter off the ground and its roots making it like a little house. Had someone dug under the tree? Did someone hold the sappling until its roots hit the ground? She just hoped that the awnser wasn't some stupid explaination like the dirt was just washed away, or something really impossible like that.
Rolling over, she drifted further into sleep, now on her back. Hm, this dream was really nice. In her dream, she was queen and people were waiting on her instead of that bitchy Red Queen. At least Lotti would be a bit nicer, to a certain extent. The only thing she would get angry at would be if anyone was being overly happy. But she wouldn't kill people for the simplest things.
Then she slowly drifted out of her dream world into the real world: Underland...While under a tree. Slowly sitting up -to an extent because of the roots and tree above her- she heard noise outside.
She crawled out, dirt all over her clothes, but she didn't care. She was always dirty, but that was for a good reason. The water scared her. To wash herself took pure will and that didn't happen often. The last time she cleaned herself must have been...a week ago? But it wasn't like she was horribly stinky. No, she rarely got up and did anything, so she didn't sweat. It was just dirt that gave her even the slightest stink.
She began to walk away from the tree, wanting somewhere better to sleep. She couldn't on dirt all the time. Maybe she could hide out in someones house, or something of that sort.
Then the sound of slashingwater stopped her in her tracks. She stopped abrutly, brushing up against a bush. Then she heard someone and walked a bit closer to shoe herself. Its not like she had anything to hide. At least, not that she knew of. But she wouldn't walk any closer. Not with that pond near. But even her fears did not change her from being horribly emotionless.
"Hello, there," she said, her eyes emotionless and brown as she took in the sight of the person.

Dinah loved humans, or at least the ones she was with. They were such warm and loving things, none more so than Alice of course who had never said no to the tabby before... except when she tried pouncing on a mouse. Oddly enough, Alice forbade Dinah to ever chase another mouse since her first return from Wonderland.
But other than that, Dinah was never wanting for attention or affection. Humans (if one was to know them well enough) were not very unlike cats themselves in their need to be loved. There was nothing quite like the welcoming coo and beckoning hand, smiles that ranged from pure adoration to exasperation.
Even the times when Mr Kingsleigh used to chide her for scratching his favorite chair or when Mrs Kingsleigh would go hysterical when the cat came in from the rain and left her paw-prints all over the newly cleaned floors, there was a certain thrill to be had from their ire. And besides, Dinah knew she'd be forgiven in the end. It's one of the things she loved about humans, their never ending supply of emotions and reactions that just brought so much life to her own.
But this, this was different.
The girl who stood before her sure looked human, but those eyes, that face and just the very being of her seemed void of everything that made humans what they were. Dinah found herself caught in a dark fathomless gaze. She was sure they were brown, Alice had brown eyes too, but these were nothing like her mistress' warm irises. It was like looking at ice, it chilled Dinah to the bone even more so than the lack of food.
Humans were mess and complications, but the stranger was just ,empty. It unnerved the tabby at how seemingly placid the girl appeared, managing to look utterly hostile and intimidating without any expression on her face. And the dirt that clung to the lithe form gave Dinah a strong urge to lick herself.
"Hello, there,"
"U-uh..." Dinah deflated from her puffed-up stance, sinking back on her haunches, "Hello."
Deciding to take the cautious route, Dinah made plans to retreat as slowly as possible so as not to stir the stranger into sudden attack. Then again, perhaps this was one of the weird creatures that Alice had encountered during her last visit. She might even be able to point her in the right direction. Although Dinah didn't recall Alice ever speaking of such a quiet girl in her adventures.
"I seem to be a bit... lost here." said the cat in woman's clothing, "Do you know where 'here' is? Or do you at least know how to get out of 'here'?"

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL SIGHED as the woman talked. This woman was obiously older than her, that was a given. But, then again, Lotti did look younger than she actually was so some things could be a bit confusing at times. But the woman didn't really give off such a mature...wait, mo, mature wasn't the right word. This lady gave off a feeling of...an animal. Like the way she talked and moved.
She took in the womans apperance, hoping it'd help her out with who this woman was. She wasn't a Red Loyal, for sure, but the woman didn't really give off a White Loyal either. Maybe she was a follower of the hatter. That might make a bit more sense, anyways. But the womans ginger hair was a bit odd. She had yet to see this kind of hair color, even in her dreams.
The womans stance was also slightly animal-like. So whoever it wwas must have eaten or drunken something. Some things here in Underland were a bit strange and should be consumed unless you really know what you're getting into. That's why Lottionly stole marked foods. Sometimes things just wernt the risk.
She sighed again. "You're in the forest. Go any direction and you'll eventually get out of here," she said, her words sounded bored and uninvitful. Looking at the woman, she saw thepond agan and took a step back. Stupid water. "If you don't mind me asking. Who are you?" she asked

The more those blank eyes stared at her the more nervous Dinah became. And while she had neither ears nor tail to portray her current unease, the rest of her spoke volumes enough. Her body was crouched low, head tipped up and jaws set a little tighter than normal. Bright eyes betrayed the real animal beneath the skin; twin slits soon dilated until there was barely a ring of golden-amber left visible.
Dinah did not like being scared or feeling trapped. Usually it made her antsy and more liable to throw a hissy-fit at the nearest unfortunate soul. But there was another kind of fear that had her rooted to the spot, unable to move in case she caused more harm to herself. Like when she was stuck up in a tree as a kitten. But she had help back then, and from the looks of things Alice was not going to pop-up in the middle of 'here' (wherever 'here' was) and snatch her back to safety.
"You're in the forest. Go any direction and you'll eventually get out of here,"
"F-forest?" she parroted, "I have honestly never seen such a forest, it sure doesn't smell much like a forest and I know what a forest smells like. This, this forest of yours is strange..."
She didn't dare take her eyes away from the stranger, afraid she'd get a sudden hit if she wasn't vigilant. She then noted how those expressionless eyes had shifted towards the pond next to Dinah's person, it was the first sign of actual life she'd seen since they met. A hint of wariness. Dinah wondered if she should be worried about the water too.
"If you don't mind me asking. Who are you?"
And just like that the jitters were gone.
If those eyes could get any wider, they did now, blinking owlishly before her brows furrowed in a look of insult. Her lips formed a pout and she crossed her arms in a look similar to a child in mid-tantrum.
"Who am I?" her voice was indignant and wounded pride, "I am a cat of course! My mistress named me Dinah. And Dinah I have been for many a year I'll have you know."
She thought she cut a dignified figure, chest puffed out slightly, back straight and head held aloft... If only she realised she looked rather silly kneeling there with her dirt streaked face, more comical than classy.

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL FELT like sitting down and leaning against a tree and falling asleep, seeing as seelping or waking in the dirt wasn't all that great or confortable. Eh, if only she had a bed to sleep on she might not need to sleep so often. But if she didnt , she probably still would sleep more than half the day away. Oh how she loved her dreams.
She yawned, her eyes now looking sleep, exaughested and bored. But she listened as the woman spoke, not tiring from the conversation just yet. But the words she spoke confused Lotti slightly. Smelled? Yeah, this woman wasn't a...well, human.
There was a slight moment of silence before the woman decided to pipe up again. But in that moment she was able to identify a bird's song, the wind passing above in the darkness of the tree's leaves and the sound of slashing water- from a fish, probably. Oh, silence was amazing. You could notice so much.
Then the lady, Dinah, began to talk again and Lotti sighed, having had enjoyed the silence. But the lady -or should she say cat?- said a few words that weren't fammilar to Lotti. Mistress? So this cat had an owner? How odd. Where was the owner then? Why was the cat a human. Confused, she began to feel her eyes change color, but held them off. She wasn't confused anymore. No, she was thinking now.
Something must have happened to the owner, then. Unless whatever happened, happened to the cat. But then...what happened? And the speech was a bit strange, not just the words, buthow the cat thought of things. Like, the forest smelled different. Different to what.
"Where are you from, cat?," Lotti asked, though it really didn't sound like a question

"Where are you from, cat?,"
Once more the puffed up puss deflated as a look of slight confusion crossed her features. But it wasn't so much the question that had her baffled, but the answer. So simple a query and yet, Dinah hesitated , head tipped to the side as she startled to speak in earnest. Half to the stranger and half to herself.
"I know where I'm from, of course I know where I'm from, everyone knows where they're from... unless you're an earthworm. You never know whether they are coming or going, or where they even begin at at all!"
Her voice had taken on a sort of whimsical tone, typical for a cat in contemplation. Except this was obviously not the right time for ramblings, and sadly Dinah was so lost in her ramblings she hadn't noticed.
"I almost swallowed an earthworm once, but Alice insisted I drop..."
Alice?... Alice!
Recognistion flooded Dinah's once blank features, her lower lip dropping a little in a silent gasp, "Home, I came from home. I came from a cushion laden wicker basket by a warm fire... I came from..." She lifted a finger towards the sky, absolute certainty written in her body language and she nodded once. "I came from Up-there."
It was frightening how seemingly unsure she was of herself. Dinah had always prided herself for her innate sense of direction. Cats were wanderers and the ginger tabby was no different despite her domestic upbringing. She'd had her fair share of stalking beyond the gates and back without a hitch.
So why was it becoming such an effort now?
It was this place, it had to be. The strangeness of this land was already beginning to play tricks with her mind the way a chameleon changed its shade to fool her sight. But she just couldn't afford such a set-back, she had to find Alice and that meant keeping her wits about her.
Dark slit-like pupils slid back to her stoic companion, and that's when Dinah noticed how completely unimpressed she looked.
"Anyway," she coughed and absently licked the back of her hand, "What did you say your name was Miss?"

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL WANTED to ignore the cats ramblings so bad, but found it impossible to zone out the annoying words. She had been having trouble zoning out people lately. Ugh, she justed wished that no one would talk to her. But, no matter how hard she tried (and trust her, its one of the few things she really tried to do) she just couldn't managed it.
Annnd...the cat just keeps talking. Something about worms...Ew. Oh, well isn't this ironic? Lotti enjoys -well, enjoy isn't the right word- sleeping on the ground, doesn't mind killing annoying people an.d loves bland food but thinks worms are gross? Yeah, that just helped prove she was a bit wacky in the head.
But one word stood out amoung the mess of words: Alice.
Not that Lotti had anything to with polictics or anything of that sort, but the whole "Real Alice" thing that went on seemed to be really importent somehow. She didn't understand why, but...yeah. Stuff like that always confused her.
"I didn't say anything about my name,"she said. Sighing, she decided to give the cat a name. Actually, its been a name she's been using a lot lately. "but its now like I can't give you my name...I'm Nora De Luca, if you really must know." she said, resisting the urge to roll her eyes.
"And if you know Alice, you might want to find the Hatter, or...something. He knows her...I think," she said.

It was obvious this conversation was getting neither of them anywhere; one was bored to tears, the other was lost and nearly in tears. Not to mention that Dinah was sensing a sort of underlying tension coming from the girl, like a coiled snake ready to strike at any given moment. Calm waters were after all the most dangerous, and Dinah had learnt that the hard way the first time she'd gone nosing into Mrs Kingsleigh's carp pond.
And while Dinah still tried to assess the situation, she used every single type of distraction technique in her arsenal. And while she wasn't exactly mewing and winding between someone's legs, at least she had a new set of vocal chords to keep the girl talking instead of finding new ways to skin a cat.
"I didn't say anything about my name, but its now like I can't give you my name...I'm Nora De Luca, if you really must know."
"Nora," Dinah repeated, keeping it in mind, "Very well, Nora, i will remember that."
The feline had already begun to self-consciously groom herself; gently licking the back of a closed hand and running it in circles over her head and down her chin in a typical feline manner. Odd for a woman yes, but then again she was not a woman was she?
At the same time, Dinah couldn't help but feel that this girl...no, Nora, had such doll-like features that it reminded the cat of one of Alice's dolls. The same featureless glass eyes that stared out into nothing. She looked younger than her mistress even, except that she was cold and impenetrable where the warmth should have been.
"And if you know Alice, you might want to find the Hatter, or...something. He knows her...I think,"
Dinah paused in mid-lick, amber eyes blinking and round as she spoke with her mouth still open and tongue still stuck to her hand. "Thuh Mah Hathuh?" Then she immediately dropped her hand and snapped back to her feet, hope radiating a new glow in the once tired-looking form.
"Yes, yes I remember that," she said in a hushed voice, pacing a little back and forth with her feet barely grazing the edge of the pond to her left, "She mentioned him once in her stories... He had a large top hat and always had tea parties with his friends... oh what were they, the May Hare and the Chair-mouse? No that's not right, different month and different furniture..."
Bare-feet stopped and she turned to face Nora once more, taking one pensive step forward, still wary of her new 'friend'. "Nora, do you know Alice? Please, it is of the utmost importance that I find her." Dinah purred softly, pleading with large eyes and a small hopeful smile. They may not work on the girl, but it was worth a try.

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL FOUND it quiet odd to watch the she-cat lick itself, then realizing it was just anotherway of washing yourself without using water., she admired that. Water just wasn't her thing, but even if she admired the fact that the woman...cat went a different route than water, Lotti wasn't sure she'd commit to licking.
Then the woman talked mid-lick and it took Lotti a second to figure out what thewoman was saying. Not that she's stupid or anything, it was just the cat was distracting her from realizing things, like sounds. She couldn't hear the wind anymore as she stared the the strange behavior.
"No, I don't know Alice. Only heard, but I don't see any real importance of her in underland or anywhere else," she said. What was with this Alice, anyways? No matter where she was, it was always "alice this" or "alice that". What was the deal with this alice?
With a sigh, she came back to reality, hearing the wind and the birds. Then she closed her eyes, placing her hand on her forehead. Headache. Nothing a little sleep couldn't take care of. Then her stomach growled. She opened her eyes and looked down. She was hungry and sleep couldn't fix it.

"No, I don't know Alice. Only heard, but I don't see any real importance of her in underland or anywhere else,"
"Oh." Disappointment caused her shoulders to droop again, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth as she tried to formulate some sort of plan, or at least the next step to take in this quest she had set for herself.
"Well Nora," said Dinah with a sigh, gently touching the golden bell that hung from her neck, "I don't really know why Alice is important in this, Underland either, but to me... She is everything."
It was said in sincerity. Not the foolish blind faith that most dogs had when it came to their owners, but the kind of one who was loved in freedom. Cats are never tamed, no matter how sheltered or pampered their lives. Within each feline is the feral capability to simply turn up their tail and stalk right out the front door and never return, to wander the wild roads however they pleased.
And Dinah loved Alice, because she never tried to put her in a cage or try to make her something she wasn't.
"I've known her since I was just a kit still crying for her mother. Alice cared for me, loved and nurtured me. Stayed with me." The pads of her fingers ran over the ridges of her name engraved into the metal of the bell, finding comfort in it. "And I in turn care for her, very much, as if she were one of my own lot. She does not belong here you see? She has to come home before she forgets..."
A pause, and a worried frown appears on Dinah's features.
"Before we both forget. I can usually feel her at the back of my mind, but here, I find it so difficult to locate her with our bond, it's just too much going on. And who knows what kind of dangerous creatures she could be facing now?"
At that exact moment, Dinah heard a faint growl and gave a very cat-like yowl, jumping in shock. She fell back on all fours with her back arched and fangs bared, hissing and bristling until she realised where the noise was coming from.
She blinked and cocked her head before dropping on her behind with a laugh, the tension of before giving her a serious case of the giggles. Her two human feet kicked out on either side as she leaned forward and crossed her arms underneath her body, trying very hard to contain the sudden amusement lest she offend Nora.
"I-I'm terribly sorry, do forgive me Miss Nora," she shook her head with a sheepish grin, "But it appears that both you and I are in a similar situation..."
Palms up, Dinah propped her chin in her hands and casually licked the corner of her lips, "Now. Where does one find something decent to eat here? I'm dying for a good sparrow or field mouse."

WINGS WON'T TAKE MEHEIGHTS DON'T PHASE ME LOTTI-RAHZIEL FELT her headache grow worse as the cat continued to talk. How could one have so much to freaking talk about? How old was this cat? Obiously, long enough. The stories just seemed to go on and on.
Her eyes began to turn red with frustration and almost felt like yelling for this god damned cat to shut her trap. Lotti just didn't understand why, how or even who could or would talk so much and about their feelings no less. How could someone experience so many feelings, then have the nerve. To jabber about them like there wasn't anything else to do today.
Calming herself, her eyes narrowed. Bonds? What? How could anyone form bonds with people? Again, Lotti just didn't understand it. She had never made any personal bonds, not even with her dream characters. And who wants to make bonds? Wouldn't they just get in the way if you had some sort of mission to do.
Then the cat did this whole strange animal thing, acting like a bear or wild dog had just came their way and was ready to attack. Realizing it was just their stomachs the cat laughed and Lotti once again felt her eyes turn red. She wondered if the cat noticed the change.
"Though that might sound good to you, I'm just going to go steal something, if you don't mind," she said, spinning on her heel to turn around and began to walk, hoping to get away from this jabber mouth as soon as possible.

Sadly for poor Nora, Dinah was just being a typical cat. Pushing buttons and pussy-footing around the comfort-zone without much care for Nora's obvious displeasure. Either that or she was much too hungry to even notice the change in the colour of the girl's irises.
But she did notice the rigidness of the shoulders and smell the heat of frustration radiating from Nora, so the feline-woman simply rolled over onto her back and purred softly.
"Though that might sound good to you, I'm just going to go steal something, if you don't mind,"
Dinah blinked as the upside-down form of Nora strode further and further away into the foliage.
"H-hey!" she cried, "What about me? I'm still lost and hungry and..." A frown came back to her face and she sat up once more, crossing her arms in a show of defiance. "Well f-fine, go on ahead then, see if I care. I am after all a cat, and cats never get lost for long, I'll just find my own way out of this ridiculous... dark... and eerie..."
The lone cry of something overhead in the canopy of gargantuan leaves caused Dinah to flinch and crouch, slit-like eyes watching the filtered light for any signs of movement.
"...F-forest."
She gulped a little and felt something akin to fear bubble up at the back of her throat. Suddenly the thought of wandering alone in this strange world was worse than having to deal with a strange girl. At least she could run away from Nora if she got too malicious, but she couldn't run away from the forest.
Up onto her feet, quick as a whip and she flew like a streak after Nora's footsteps. "N-Nora! Wait up for a minute, a second! If it's stealing you want to do then I'm your cat! Did I ever tell you about the time I even managed to pilfer an entire Sunday roast from the Kingsleigh's dinner table without detection?"
Poor Nora indeed.

When she finally caught up with Nora, Dinah took a quick cursory peep behind them to see if anything unfriendly decided to tag along, turning around so that she was walking backwards. Thankfully she couldn't see or hear anything hostile close by, so she returned to walking face-forward, trying not to trip on the roots and undergrowth.
This would never have been a problem if I had my paws back...
"Well then, Dinah, if you're as good as you say you are, I might want more than just food from you,"
For the first time since they'd started talking, the girl showed something other than disinterest and boredom... And somehow that little twist in the corner of Nora's lip was more unnerving than the blankness of before.
"I've been wanting a good sword recently. Do you think you could get that?"
"A sword?" she cocked her head to the side in curiosity, "You mean those long sharp pointy things used for slaying dragons?"
Dinah concentrated hard, thinking of Alice, remembering one of their many play-times together when they pretended to by brave knights on a quest to rescue a village from destruction...
'Come Dinah! We must return to the castle and fetch our sword and steed!'
"Yes," she said softly, then nodded and repeated herself more assertively, "Yes. I think I can, I just need to find a castle in this godforsaken place..."
"And while you get me one, I'll get the food and possibly help you look for Alice,"
Something told Dinah to be very careful, to be wise and not leap into this without giving it some thought. But all she heard in that entire sentence was 'Alice', even with just a 'possibly' as a token insurance but it was still there all the same. It was enough for the ginger tabby and she tipped her chin down in compliance.
"Then you and I, have a deal Nora." And cats never forgot their promises, not when they were such proud creatures to begin with anyway.
She continued to follow the girl in an oddly silent manner, her doubts many and assurances few as she swiftly swung herself over the large root without much thought. Over and over again she could hear a chiding voice in her head telling her that she shouldn't have acted so rashly in the heat of the moment, a voice that sounded strangely like a younger Alice. Dinah tried to come up with some plausible excuse to said mental voice, but she just couldn't come up with any.
It was enough to make an old tabby queen feel like a young kitten caught with her paw in the cookie tin all over again.
"So...tell me why people have such..."bonds" with others. I don't get it. I grew up with a...loving family, par say, but I never created any "bonds" with anyone,
Looking up from her drifting thoughts, Dinah scratched the base of her neck absently as she pondered on Nora's question. It wasn't something she expected to hear from the distant girl and she wasn't quite sure that she had the right answers.
"Well, I'm not entirely sure how it works for human folk," she shrugged, "But I do know that for me and my kind, it starts of as just a mere alliance of convenience. Humans provide food and shelter for our families, protection from our enemies and of course the admiration we crave."
Amber hues met dark blues and a small smile stretched across the ginger woman's face, "But later on, the cats that remain, find that with time comes the ability to read their humans as well as they do themselves. They know how they feel and where they are just by a single thought, or memory. And I believe that humans who live long with their cats experience the same thing... It really is quite fascinating."
A pause before continuing, "I believe bonds only occur if one is open to such a thing, if one is willing to relinquish a bit of themselves to the other and vice-versa. It becomes something more than just a superficial togetherness of two." The woman-cat then backtracked to something Nora had said before. "You said you had a family? Where are they now?"
